Three area qualifiers crack top 10 in Avg. at National HS Rodeo

Aggregate scores from the National High School Finals Rodeo held last week in Wyoming put three area competitors in the top 50 of their events. As a whole, Team South Dakota finished ninth overall.

Locals among leaders in SDRA standings at mid-point of season

Five local competitors currently sit atop the South Dakota Rodeo Association (SDRA) season standings in their respective events at the midway point of the 2025 season.

Here’s how some of the area cowboys and cowgirls did in rodeo competition in the past week: - Kaden Deal of Dupree and Easton Eisemann of Glenham tied for third place in saddle bronc riding at the Hermosa Battle on the Creek on Saturday, July 19. Both riders posted scores of 71 and earned $640 each.
Bear Creek bull rider Stran Smith has been turning in some strong performances on the county fair rodeo circuit so far this summer, finishing in the money at events in Ellendale, ND, and Fertile, MN, last seekend. Smith scored 64 points on a Bailey Pro Rodeo bull named Charlie Sheen to claim second place at the Dickey County Fair and posted a 77 point effort on NorEaster from Triple R Rodeo to finish third overall at the Polk County Fair. Trail City’s Sandquist captures Boss Cowman bareback crown

Teenager Mark Sandquist of Trail City was crowned bareback bronc riding champion at the 2025 Boss Cowman Rodeo held Thursday through Sunday, July 10-13 in Lemmon.

Dupree saddle bronc rider Shorty Garrett covered two-of-three broncs in Bracket C of the Calgary Stampede in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, which continues through July 19.Garrett put up 84.5 points in the opening round on Pedro from the Wayne Vold Rodeo Co. to finish fourth overall and pocket $3,250.

Dupree School to upgrade football, track facilities

The Dupree School District hosted an organizational meeting last Monday, June 30, to discuss and organize efforts to make improvements to the school’s football field and track facilities.First on the list of improvements, according to Supt.
