2024 high school rodeo season kicks off April 20

The South Dakota High School Rodeo Association (SDHSRA) has announced its 2024 schedule for practice and regional rodeos, kicking off the season April 20-21 with the New Underwood Practice Rodeo at the James Kjerstad Event Center in Rapid City.

West River wrestlers shine at Mobridge Youth Invitational

Competitors from Timber Lake, Dupree and McLaughlin spent a lot of time on the winners podium after a strong showing at the Mobridge Youth Wrestling Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 11. Among them were combined 15 wrestlers from the three clubs who garnered gold medals for first place finishes.

  Jasmine Henderson of the McLaughlin-based Grand River Rattlers claimed third place in the 9-10 girls 56-58 division while E-Shania ‘Waste’ Win Eagle was fourth in the 9-10 girls 56-58 division and DJ Crow Ghost was fourth in the 11 & up boys 148-180 division.

Two members of the Dupree High School Powerlifting Team set four new state records in their respective age groups, including senior Nevaeh Farlee, who established three new marks, at the second annual West River Invitational held Jan. 27 in Box Elder.

The Timber Lake Youth Wrestling Team walked away with 19 top four finishes at the Lemmon-McIntosh Youth Tournament in Lemmon on Sunday, Feb. 4, including four first place performances.

Dupree senior Taylee Jewett’s double-double with a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds helped the Dupree Tigers slip past the Timber Lake Lady Panthers 56-52 in nonconference girls hoops last Tuesday, Jan. 30.
