In back-to-back tournaments, the McLaughlin-Timber Lake wrestling team carried the momentum of its success in Groton on Saturday, Jan. 27, to the Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Round Robin Tournament on Monday, Jan. 29, with several members making notable achievements.

The hope of reaching the Super Bowl came to an end for Timber Lake native Tucker Kraft and the underdog Green Bay Packers on Saturday as they fell 24-21 on a last-minute touchdown to the San Francisco 49ers.

Participation in this year’s Lake Isabel Fishing Contest was up compared to previous years as the recent subzero cold streak snapped on Sunday, bringing high temperatures in the low 20s for competitors to contend with. While the weather cooperated, participants said the fish did not, as very few lunkers were landed during the event.

Organizers pushed the 10th annual Lake Isabel Ice Fishing Contest back a day - from Saturday, Jan. 20 to Sunday, Jan. 21 - due to extremely cold conditions and it paid off as the daytime highs reached into the lower 20s and the sun shined on the largest group of contestants entered in recent years.
