School board okays bid for improvements to bus barn

The Timber Lake School Board last week accepted a bid for improvements to the district’s old bus barn, with the price coming in slightly lower than school officials expected. North Central Steel, with locations in Mobridge and Aberdeen, submitted the lone bid for the project at $122,408.

Despite frigid temperatures, a good crowd turned out at the Highway 63 project meeting at the Timber Lake Community Center on January 11. Representatives of the S.D.

Sitting Bull College awarded nearly $300K language grant

The Indian Affairs Office of Indian Economic Development recently awarded more than $5.7 million in total Living Language Grant Program funds to 20 American Indian and Alaska Native Tribes and tribal organizations, including Sitting Bull College based in Fort Yates, ND.
Relatively mild temperatures for December and January are about to give way to some colder and snowier days in the next few weeks. Nightly fog and heavy frost have blanketed the region in the past two weeks with meteorologists predicting sub-zero temperatures and the chance for much more snow by the end of January. The frost in the trees like this one in Isabel creates the effect the scene is a painting.

Visitor says she always receives warm welcome at Timber Lake

My mom was born in Timber Lake in 1933. Her name was Susan LaPlant. Susan’s father was Edward LaPlant and her mother was Beulah Traversie. Since her passing (several years ago), my family and I decided to visit Timber Lake in 2016 to see where she was born.
