DANR Secretary answers producers’ questions

Many South Dakota producers have questions for Hunter Roberts, the Secretary of the newly merged Department of Agriculture & Natural Resources. One of the people who had a chance to ask Roberts some questions was Jerry Petik, a thirdgeneration Corson County rancher.

Kim Smeenk, a special education teacher at Belle Fourche Middle School, was honored as the district’s Teacher of the Year for 2020-2021. The daughter of Dennis and Margaret Lindskov of Isabel, Kim is a 1993 graduate of Isabel High School.

Mathieson and Horn descendants gather for reunion

Descendants of Julia Narcelle Mathieson Hudspeth and Robert Mathieson and descendants of Mary Louise Narcelle Horn and Albert Horn met to welcome back grandchildren and great-grandchildren of these ancestors.

Jeffery Aberle left Chuck and Marsha Aberle's on Sunday after being there for a week. He returned to Thief River Falls, MN. On Friday, Chuck, Marsha, and Jefferey went out to eat in Mobridge. Judy Hintz was in Winner Friday through Sunday to watch Tobi Hintz at the High School Regionals Rodeo.

FSA taking applications for two CRP programs

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has set a July 23 deadline for agricultural producers and landowners to apply for the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) General Signup 56. Additionally, USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) will accept applications for CRP Grasslands from July 12 to August 20.

Buck and Lori Ward had a temporary lake in front of their log home north of Timber Lake after 7-10 inches of rain filled creeks and draws and flooded their house, causing considerable damage.

Quilt raffle

Dupree Volunteer Firemen’s Auxiliary members are selling chances on this quilt made and donated by Virginia Till of Dupree. The drawing will be held Sunday, June 27 during the Pioneer Days Celebration. The quilt is on display at 1st Financial Bank USA in Dupree. Tickets are $1.
