Civics and History Initiative pilot grant applications open

South Dakota public schools can now apply for a pilot grant program, which is part of the South Dakota Civics and History Initiative. A total of $200,000 in grant funding is available for schools to pilot programs that focus on strengthening civics/government and history education.

Burn ban on reservation

The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe (CRST) on Sunday, April 11, issued a reservation-wide burn ban that will remain in place until further notice. The ban comes as extremely dry conditions and high winds continue to create hazardous conditions for open fires.

Two county employees resign

Dewey County Treasurer Mikki Veit and Deputy Auditor Cherie Leibel have submitted resignations. Leibel has begun a new position as administrative assistant at Timber Lake Middle/High School, where she replaced Tammi Ducheneaux, who is now at Moreau-Grand Electric. Veit will be leaving May 11.
