A drive around Timber Lake will not disappoint, as the community is aglow with decorated homes and yards. AT LEFT is a home on the west side of town. BELOW is the home of Lyndsey and Frankie Ducheneaux on south Main Street. (They won third place in the Christmas decorating contest.)

Correction

Native small business grants available through Google.org

Calling Native-owned small businesses the “lifeblood” of many tribal communities, the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) is offering business stabilization grants to those that have been severely impacted by the curtailing of commercial activity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Policies won’t require tribal approval

The Timber Lake School Board narrowly approved a change to the school district’s Indian Policies and Procedures (IPP) last Wednesday, Dec. 9, voting 3-2 to remove a “signature page” from the document.

Active cases in Dewey, Ziebach drop considerably to below 150

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Dewey and Ziebach counties took a considerable drop to start the week, falling 45 cases between Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 7 and 8, from 188 to 143. That’s down from 219 on Dec. 1 and the lowest active case count in months.
