NO FAIR HELD THIS YEAR

The following seven Dewey County 4-H members submitted projects for judging and were awarded ribbons. There was no live fair this year. Judges were Cherie Leibel and Robert Slocum.

Absentee voting off and running

Absentee voting in South Dakota began Friday Sept. 18. As of Tuesday, September 22, the Dewey County Auditor’s office had given or mailed out 270 absentee ballots, and 23 had been returned. The absentee voting continues until 5 p.m. on election day, November 3.

TL City board adopts budget

The Timber Lake City Board, meeting on Monday, September 21, adopted the budget for 2021 and agreed to look into the purchase of a 2008 road grader which board chair Tom Hermes had located in Wyoming. The price is $80,000, most of which could be paid for from reserves and savings.

CRST says schools should close at Level 4

The Timber Lake and Dupree school boards voted last Wednesday to continue in-school learning, despite an order from the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe directing all schools on the reservation to conduct classes virtually.

School board okays budget

The Timber Lake School Board approved its budget for the 2020-21 school year last Wednesday, Sept. 16, with a slight increase over last year's budget attributed to staff pay raises and insurance rate hikes.

Dewey Co. Commissioners make changes in budget

The Dewey County Commissioners made some reductions in the proposed budget for 2021 at the final budget hearing on September 8. The final result was a budget of $3,289,062, which is $316,297 less than the 2020 budget of $3,605,359 and $453,592 less than the preliminary 2021 budget of $3,742,654.

CRST reports active COVID cases down to 24 Tuesday

The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe reported this week that the total number of COVID-19 cases in Dewey and Ziebach counties had reached 169, but the number of active cases had dropped from the mid-30s last week to 24 as of Tuesday, Sept. 15.
