FIRE REPORT

July 12, 2021: Timber Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. responded to the “Grace” fire east of Saddle Butte (northeast of Timber Lake). The fire was contained to 32 acres and about 20 bales. Also responding were Trail City VFD, Standing Rock BIA Fire, and North Dakota Forest Service.

Summer reading prizes given

As the summer reading program (The Family That Reads Together Stays Together) at Timber Lake School wrapped up, prizes were awarded in each age group. Elementary students won portable handheld game consoles and middle and high school students won $50 Amazon gift cards.

The Butterfly Effect

My daughter recently brought home a monarch caterpillar. We cared for it in a container making sure it had a supply of fresh milkweed leaves and kept its cage clean. It seemed perfectly content to munch on leaves all day.

On July 3, Bob and Ruby Hollenbeck spent the day in Mobridge attending the wedding and reception of their great-granddaughter, Jaydelyn Nickels, and Dylan Harrison. The wedding was at the city park and the reception was at Danny and Hailey Nickels’ house.

Iron Cloud replaces Schott as Corson Co. Coroner

A new coroner, new jail doors, next year’s budget and more were on the agenda when the Corson County Board of Commissioners met July 6, 2021. Chairman Stephen Keller called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. with Shawn Hinsz, Lucas Sutherland, Darren Bauer, and Jacob Nehl present.

Countdown to Days of 1910

Timber Lake is gearing up for the Days of 1910 Celebration. Enthusiasm is high after skipping last year’s celebration due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Property sold

The Dewey County Commission opened sealed bids for four parcels of property which the county had acquired ownership of through a delinquent tax deed process.

Correction

The Timber Lake Elementary school supplies list which was published in the July 8 issue of the Topic (page 6) mistakenly had a 2020-2021 heading. The supplies lists are correct for 2021-2022. The list will be published again in the Topic’s Back to School issue in August.
